The Culture of Killing

These are a series of glass plate negatives dating back to the turn of the 20th century from Thailand, Laos, and Nepal. The images from Laos were taken by Jean Duplay, a French Lao official on some of his hunting trips. The images from Nepal were provided by Kiran Man Chitrakar, the grandson of the Nepali royal photographer, and were also taken in the early 20th century. The images illustrate the king of Nepal posing with trophies of Indian rhino, tiger and Asian elephant.
